THE RACE
What is the Amundsen Omega 3 South Pole Race?

“People do not decide to become extraordinary. They decide to accomplish extraordinary things.” - Sir Edmund Hillary

The Amundsen Omega 3 South Pole Race, to the far end of the earth, will be the first race to the South Pole since Scott and Amundsen ́s historic race nearly 100 years ago. Roald Amundsen arrived on Dec. 1911, Robert Scott on Jan. 17 1912.
After almost 2 weeks of inten- sive Polar Training in Antarctica covering approximately 100 nautical miles, teams of 3 will set off across the Antarctic Pla- teau to race 430 nautical miles across the largest ice cap in the world to the Geographic South Pole.
The racers will face constant challenges throughout their journey: surviving in temperatures as low as -50C, navigating and skiing while pulling a 70Kg pulk (sledge), climbing up to 9300 ft. to the South Pole and through everything working together as a team.
Amundsen Omega 3 South Pole Race is more than just a race. It is the journey of a lifetime.

The participants used Nanok equipment to stay warm with the Expedition PRO down jacket, secure a good nights sleep in Performance -45 sleeping bags and be sheltered from the storms in the DomusEXPEDITION tent.
